Colten Hayes
Owner/Head Instructor
Colten Hayes brings extensive experience as both a player and coach to his role as Assistant Coach with the Olds Grizzlys in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). This season, he worked with numerous minor hockey associations, running skills sessions for Okotoks Minor Hockey, Black Diamond Minor Hockey, Cochrane Minor Hockey, Wheatland Minor Hockey, Olds Minor Hockey, and more. As the only Hockey Canada Certified Skills Instructor in the Foothills region, he is committed to player development at all levels.
A former professional defenseman/forward, Hayes played 235 career games in the ECHL with teams including the Missouri Mavericks, Stockton Thunder, Fort Wayne Komets, Reading Royals, and Alaska Aces. Over his pro career, he recorded 87 points, 452 penalty minutes, and a +43 rating. Before turning pro, Hayes competed in both the BCHL and AJHL, suiting up for the Langley Chiefs, Drumheller Dragons, and Okotoks Oilers, where he posted 104 points and 538 penalty minutes in three seasons. In 2010-11, he made history as the first Okotoks Oilers player to be named AJHL Defenseman of the Year.
With 18 years of coaching and instructional experience, Hayes is the owner and operator of Coast2Coast Hockey Development, established in 2015. His coaching career includes a second tenure as Head Coach/GM of the High River Flyers and leading the U18AA Foothills Bisons to their first winning season in a decade. He has also served as GM/Head Coach of the High River Flyers, Assistant Coach for the Okotoks Bisons, and Head Coach of the U13 AA Foothills Bisons.
A strong believer in player development and leadership, Hayes leads by example, fostering relationships built on trust and mutual respect. His approach as a players' coach ensures that athletes are motivated to perform at their best—both on and off the ice.
RHETT KINGSTON
Assistant Instructor
Rhett Kingston’s hockey journey is a testament to dedication, skill, and perseverance. Growing up in Black Diamond and Okotoks, Rhett honed his game in minor hockey before spending four seasons with the prestigious Notre Dame Hounds. His standout performance led him to the BCHL, where he solidified his reputation as a high-impact player. His talent and relentless work ethic earned him an NCAA Division I scholarship to Western Michigan University, where he competed at the highest collegiate level.
Rhett transitioned to professional hockey with the Macon Mayhem in the SPHL and later signed with the Rapid City Rush in the ECHL. After his pro career, he continued his passion for the game by playing senior hockey in Saskatchewan this season.
Beyond his playing career, Rhett is deeply committed to developing the next generation of athletes. As a coach and mentor, he shares his extensive knowledge and experience to help young players refine their skills and elevate their game. Known for his exceptional speed, physicality, and hockey IQ, Rhett emphasizes not only technical development but also the mental and strategic aspects of the game. His ability to connect with players and instill confidence makes him an invaluable asset in shaping future talent.

JESSE LEES
Assistant Instructor
Jesse Lees brings a wealth of high-level playing experience and a deep passion for player development. A Calgary native, Jesse played his minor hockey with the Calgary Northstars before advancing to the WHL, where he spent time with both the Kelowna Rockets and Prince Albert Raiders. His impressive junior career paved the way for a professional stint in the AHL and ECHL, where he continued to develop his game at the highest levels.
Following his pro career, Jesse was recruited to play U SPORTS hockey at Mount Royal University, where he combined his elite playing experience with a commitment to education and leadership. Now, as a senior instructor and coach, Jesse is dedicated to helping the next generation of players refine their skills, develop hockey IQ, and elevate their overall game.
Known for his exceptional defensive play, vision, and ability to teach the intricacies of the game, Jesse is an invaluable mentor to young athletes aspiring to reach the next level. His hands-on approach and ability to connect with players make him a key asset in developing talent both on and off the ice.
JORDAN HICKMOTT
Assistant Instructor
Jordan Hickmott continues to thrive in professional hockey, currently playing for EC Bad Nauheim in the DEL 2 League in Germany for the 2023-2024 season. Jordan’s journey began in Mission minor hockey, where he developed into a standout player. His talent led him to the WHL, where he spent five successful years with the Medicine Hat Tigers, Prince Albert Raiders, and Edmonton Oil Kings. After his WHL career, Jordan took his game to the University of Alberta, where he excelled both on the ice and in the classroom, playing five years for the Golden Bears.
Jordan’s professional career has taken him across the globe, including stints in the AHL, Slovakian, German, and Austrian leagues. Known for his smooth skating, power forward presence, and an elite ability to finish around the net, Jordan is a constant offensive threat. His high hockey IQ and experience at top levels of play make him a leader both on and off the ice.
Now, as he continues to play overseas, Jordan is passionate about mentoring young players. His expertise in positioning, finishing, and smart, physical play has made him a crucial resource for kids looking to elevate their skills. He emphasizes the importance of hockey sense, work ethic, and maintaining a winning mentality, helping players develop into complete athletes. Jordan’s commitment to the game and his ability to teach it makes him a standout role model for the next generation of talent.
